Many of the clients who come to Growing Sideways Therapy have been to therapy before. Sometimes, there's a thought or feeling they carry with them when they walk through the door: "I wish I didn’t have to start from the beginning again."
There’s something vulnerable about having to tell your story to someone new. Clients wonder if their new therapist will understand them like their previous therapist did. They may question whether they’ll have to re-explain parts of their past that feel heavy, raw, or already processed. They might even feel a bit hesitant to hope again — uncertain if this new relationship will be the right fit.

Often, people experience a mix of of hope and anxiety, a desire to keep healing, paired with the discomfort of change. At Growing Sideways, we honor that. I do not expect you to tell everything out right away. I meet you where you are. There’s no pressure to tell your whole story in the first session, or even the second. The work happens gently, with space for you to arrive in your own time.
At Growing Sideways Therapy, we know the therapeutic relationship matters. Trust takes time, and we’re here for the long haul.
So, if you're feeling both hopeful and hesitant, you’re in good company. That’s exactly where many of our clients begin — and from there, things can grow.
